Yogi Adityanath asks officials to finalise Green Hydrogen Policy of Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to conclude the formulation of a Green Hydrogen Policy and to actively promote and incentivize companies engaged in the sector.
During a review of the draft policy in a meeting, he emphasized the importance of consulting with investors and stakeholders to maximize the benefits derived from the policy.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of supporting green hydrogen as a clean energy source, essential for achieving the net-zero target.
Under the draft Uttar Pradesh Green Hydrogen Policy 2023, the state aims to attain a green hydrogen production capacity of nearly 500,000 tonnes per annum by 2028. The policy’s primary objective is to ensure the comprehensive utilization of domestically produced green hydrogen, which is expected to generate employment opportunities for over 60,000 individuals.
As per the draft, to facilitate advancements in green hydrogen research, the state will establish two centers of excellence under the UP New and Renewable Energy Development Agency.
Yogi Adityanath stressed on the importance of providing land to companies in the green hydrogen sector and extending additional benefits, including exemptions from stamp duty, electricity duty, as well as capital and interest subsidies.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister urged officials to analyze similar policies implemented by various states before finalizing the Uttar Pradesh Green Hydrogen Policy. Currently, the state’s hydrogen demand is approximately 900,000 tonnes per annum, with a particular focus on the fertilizer and refinery sectors.
Furthermore, the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is implementing the National Green Hydrogen Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet on 4th January 2023, with an outlay of ₹ 19,744 crore. The overarching objective of the Mission is to make India the Global Hub for production, usage and export of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives.
