As India ramps up its decarbonisation efforts, Telangana has secured green energy investments worth Rs 29,000 crore under the newly launched Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy 2025. The funds come from major energy firms Ecoren Energy India Private Ltd and GPSR Arya Pvt Ltd, marking a significant step in the state’s clean energy transition.

Biogas Projects by GPSR Arya to Boost Circular Economy

GPSR Arya Pvt Ltd will invest Rs 2,000 crore to develop 15 compressed biogas (CBG) plants in Telangana, each with a capacity of 15 tonnes per day. These projects are being developed through joint ventures with public sector oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL).

The joint venture with IOC, IOC GPS Renewables Pvt Ltd, will develop biogas projects in Medak, Sangareddy, and Siddipet of Telangana, supplying gas to Torrent Gas for city gas distribution (CGD).

IOC will also act as the CGD for biogas plants in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, and Jagtial. Megha Gas will oversee CGD for Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Yadadri, Wanaparthy, and Mahabubnagar districts.

Additionally, the joint venture by BPCL and GPSR Arya will supply biogas to Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd for distribution in Kamareddy and Nizamabad areas of Telangana.

The CBG plants will process agro-waste and Napier grass, utilising an estimated 7.5 lakh metric tonnes of surplus paddy straw annually. The initiative is expected to create approximately 3,000 direct jobs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17.24 lakh metric tonnes each year.

The agreements were formalised through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed with the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd (TGREDCO) in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.

Ecoren Energy is looking to lead the initiative while committing Rs 27,000 crore towards wind and solar power projects across multiple locations in Telangana. These projects are projected to cut carbon emissions by approximately 400 million tonnes over the next 25 years.

The investments by Ecoren Energy would generate around 16,200 local jobs and contribute Rs 1,600 crore in State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) revenue. Key projects include a 3,279 MW wind-solar hybrid project across three sites in Sangareddy and Narayanpet districts; 1,650 MWp floating solar power installation at seven locations in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district and 650 MWp ground-mounted solar plant in Jogulamba Gadwal district.
