Statcon Energiaa’s Rectifiers Set To Be Used In NTPC’s Green H2 Project At Leh

Statcon Energiaa is now all set to dispatch its containerised rectifier for India’s ambitious Green Hydrogen project at Leh. The Union government has now planned to run buses in Leh with Green Hydrogen. This comes after the Indian government has planned to promote the use of Green Hydrogen in India’s energy transition.

Statcon Energiaa which has had its presence in India for more than three decade has now manufactured a rectifier which can enable the production of Green Hydrogen in the tough terrain. The company said that its product has also evoked interest in multiple offshore countries.

“This product developed by us already has great interest from Multiple European, American and 1 Australian Company as well. With this indigenously developed technology, we hope to make the BoS Part of the electrolyser system more technically advanced while being more cost-effective than presently manufactured rectifiers globally,” Statcon said in a statement.

Rectifiers are a vital part of the Electrolyser System (a balance-of-plant equipment for the electrolyser). In the context of green hydrogen production from renewable sources of energy, such as solar or wind power, AC/DC rectifiers play a critical role in ensuring a smooth and efficient conversion of electrical energy for the electrolysis process.

“When we harness energy from renewable sources like solar panels or wind turbines, the generated electricity is typically in the form of direct current (DC). However, the power grid and distribution systems often operate on alternating current (AC). AC/DC rectifiers become essential in this scenario as they convert the generated DC power from renewables into the required form of electricity for electrolysis, which is typically direct current,” Statcon said, informing about the role of rectifiers in the production of Green Hydrogen.

It said that it was proud to be part of Leh’s Green Hydrogen project. “We are proud to be a part of such a prestigious Green Hydrogen project where we are able to contribute in a substantial way. Statcon Energiaa’s rectifiers have been running not just in Power sector but also in Defence. We believe in the Honourable PM’s vision to Make-in-India. As a step further, we don’t just produce in India but also conceptualise and design it in India,” the firm said.

The Green Hydrogen Mobility Pilot Project in Leh is a project that aims to run five hydrogen fuel cell buses in and around Leh. The project is being set up at a height of 3,600 meters above sea level with a temperature variation of minus 14 degrees to plus 20 degrees Celsius. Statcon Energiaa’s Rectifier for this project is designed to work in ambient temperature of -25 Deg Celsius to 45 Deg Celsius. The project is a step towards sustainable regional development and aligns with the country’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy. This will be India’s first ever deployment of hydrogen buses on public roads. The first-of-its-kind Green Hydrogen Mobility Project at 11,562 ft is co-located with dedicated Solar plant of 1.7 MW for providing renewable power.
