ONGC, PowerGrid ink deal to develop green hydrogen, clean energy projects
The central PSUs look to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promoting a low-carbon economy as the collaboration aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).
The Indian government’s strong push for the development of the green hydrogen sector to accelerate decarbonization in the energy space has brought together two key public sector undertakings—ONGC and PowerGrid Corporation. The companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi to collaborate on green hydrogen and clean energy projects.
The strategic partnership highlights the commitment of both companies to advancing sustainable energy solutions and supporting India’s climate goals. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting a low-carbon economy, the collaboration aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), which aims to position India as a global leader in the production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen.
The MoU was signed by S.K. Dwivedi, Chief JV&BD (Downstream, Petrochemical and New Energy) of ONGC, and Sunil Kumar Gupta, CGM of PowerGrid. The event was attended by senior executives from both organizations, including Arunangshu Sarkar, Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs), ONGC, and Dr. Yatindra Dwivedi, Director (Personnel), PowerGrid.
Director (Strategy & Corp. Affairs), ONGC, Arunanghshu Sarkar stated, “This MoU marks a significant step towards a cleaner energy future. We look forward to working with PowerGrid Corporation to make green hydrogen a viable alternative.”
Dr. Yatindra Dwivedi, Director (Personnel), PowerGrid, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are excited to partner with ONGC. Together, we will accelerate India’s transition to a low-carbon economy.”
Satish Kumar Dwivedi, Chief (JV&BD) at ONGC, mentioned that his company’s commitment to sustainability and its various initiatives toward energy transition and business diversification, in line with ONGC’s Energy Strategy and net-zero ambitions.
Under its Energy Strategy 2040, ONGC has set ambitious renewable energy targets, including achieving 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 2038. This collaboration with PowerGrid marks a pivotal step in ONGC’s efforts to diversify into renewable energy sectors such as solar, wind, green hydrogen, and geothermal.
As India progresses on its path of development, partnerships like this will play a vital role in shaping the nation’s energy landscape, ensuring a sustainable, clean, and prosperous future.
