NTPC, CII-IGBC Partner To Promote Net Zero Industrial Townships
NTPC today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CII-IGBC to develop Net Zero standards for industrial townships and office complexes across the country. Vijay Prakash, Executive Director (SSEA and Environment Engineering), NTPC, and K S Venkatagiri, Executive Director, CII signed MoU in the presence of Ravindra Kumar, Director (Operations), NTPC.
NTPC Limited, an integrated power utility in India, was the first energy company across the world to declare its Energy Compact Goals as a part of the UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy. Under this collaboration, NTPC and CII-IGBC will develop certification systems, standards, and policies to achieve Net Zero goals, while building stakeholder capacity for transforming industrial townships and offices into sustainable, energy-efficient establishments.
NTPC’s Kudgi Township, Ratnagiri Township, and NETRA Office Complex are already pursuing Net Zero Energy and Water certifications, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability. This MoU strengthens NTPC’s efforts in creating a blueprint for sustainable infrastructure.
Earlier in 2022, NTPC had already signed a Statement of Intent with NITI Aayog for collaboration on developing a net zero GHG emissions roadmap for NTPC Group in alignment with the Panchamrit goals of the Government of India.
Recently, NTPC and USAID/India signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a Roadmap for transforming NTPC Townships and Offices. NTPC signed this MoU through its India Mission in Delhi to transform NTPC Townships and Offices into Net Zero Establishments. The MoU was signed by Vijay Prakash, Executive Director (SSEA and Envt. Engg.), NTPC, and Aaron Schubert, Deputy Mission Director (A) USAID/India and Bhutan in the presence of Ravindra Kumar, Director (Operations), NTPC here in Delhi.
This initiative supports NTPC’s decision to make its townships and offices net zero in Scope 2 emissions by FY 2025-26. In addition, NTPC is also making its efforts to declare its townships and offices net zero in water and waste at the earliest.
