Ludhiana civic body issues tender to develop Rs 42 crore CBG plant

The tender is titled "Execution, Installation, Operation, and Maintenance of 200 TPD Waste to CBG Plant" that will be located at Jamalpur area.

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has invited bids for the development of a waste-to-biogas plant at the Jamalpur site in Ludhiana in a quest to end the problem of waste in the industrial city and also generate green energy out of it.

The new waste-to-energy facility will have the capacity to process approximately 200 tonnes of organic waste per day generated in the city. A sum of ₹42 crore has been sanctioned for the project. A tender was issued on July 19 to identify a contractor to construct the CBG plant under a public-private partnership (PPP) mode on a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) basis.

The tender is titled “Execution, Installation, Operation, and Maintenance of 200 TPD Waste to CBG Plant.” The goal is to convert segregated municipal solid waste (organic) and other biodegradable waste into compressed biogas (CBG). The plant will be located at Jamalpur, Ludhiana, adjacent to the Jamalpur sewerage treatment plant, spanning seven acres.

According to reports, the construction period for the plant has been set at one year and six months, while the operation and maintenance period will be 20 years. The total concession period is around 21 years and six months.

Several firms have participated, including Mahasakhti Bio Enercon Private Limited, Earthshastra Ecotech Private Limited, and Adani Total Energies Biomass Limited.

Recently, the Bathinda Municipal Corporation held that it was mulling establish a compressed biogas (CBG) plant capable of processing 50 tonnes of biodegradable waste daily to enhance waste management practices in the area under SATAT Scheme.

Last month, state Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO announced the commissioning of a renovated Biomass Power Plant in Fatehgarh Sahib to tackle the problem of paddy burning in the state. The state is seriously considering biogas projects a viable means to arrest the challenge of litter and pollution while harnessing renewable energy.
