Himachal’s first green hydrogen mobility station to come up in Chamba district
The new green hydrogen station will focus on the production and distribution of green hydrogen, powering hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and supporting the state’s transition to cleaner energy sources.

Himachal Pradesh is poised to launch its first green hydrogen mobility station in Chamba district, marking a crucial step towards promoting sustainable energy solutions and advancing the state’s green mobility goals.
As per reports, the new green hydrogen station will focus on the production and distribution of green hydrogen, powering hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and supporting the state’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
By utilizing green hydrogen, the initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and decrease reliance on fossil fuels, aligning with broader environmental objectives and contributing to a more sustainable energy future.
Located in Chamba district, the station will bolster local infrastructure, facilitate the deployment of hydrogen-powered vehicles, and open new avenues for green technology adoption. This project is part of Himachal Pradesh’s comprehensive strategy to enhance green mobility and energy solutions, reflecting the state’s commitment to innovation and sustainability within the transportation sector.

In April this year, SJVN Limited inaugurated of one of the India’s first state-of-the-art multi-purpose (Combined Heat and Power) green hydrogen pilot project in Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh. The green hydrogen plant has come up at its 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro power station.
Some initiatives have been undertaken in the neighbouring Himalayan UT of Ladakh where NTPC is setting up Hydrogen Fuelling Station, Solar Plant and providing Nos Fuel Cell buses for operation on intra-city routes of Leh.
Recently, the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved $1.5 billion in financing for a second operation aimed at accelerating India’s development of low-carbon energy which special focus on green hydrogen.
