Green Hydrogen ‘Center of Excellence’ to come up in Uttar Pradesh with Japanese tech

Japan looks to explore several investment areas in the state of Uttar Pradesh including the green hydrogen sector. Ko Osada, Vice-Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties between Yamanashi and Uttar Pradesh during his visit to the state.
Meeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence, Osada discussed four key areas, including investment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh. He revealed that approximately 250 Japanese CEOs will visit the state to explore potential investments. The delegation aims to assess business prospects, drawn by Uttar Pradesh’s robust law and order, good governance, and rapid economic growth. This initiative is expected to generate significant employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
A major focus of the discussions was green hydrogen. Both sides emphasized the importance of a partnership between Uttar Pradesh and Yamanashi to drive green hydrogen initiatives. Plans include establishing a center of excellence powered by Japanese technology. Additionally, an international seminar will be organized to bring together global experts and stakeholders in hydrogen technology. Yamanashi University will also extend opportunities for students from Uttar Pradesh to study industrial technology in this field.
Employment opportunities for Uttar Pradesh’s youth in Japan, particularly in Yamanashi Prefecture, were also discussed. It was agreed that candidates would receive Japanese language training and specialized skill development before being sent for employment. Osada further announced that Yamanashi Prefecture would offer scholarships to students pursuing studies in the region.
Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s vast tourism potential, Osada underscored the significance of the Buddhist Circuit in attracting Japanese visitors. Many Japanese tourists and devotees are eager to visit key Buddhist sites such as Sarnath, Kushinagar, and Shravasti. Efforts will be made to promote tourism between Yamanashi and Uttar Pradesh, encouraging more people from the Japanese prefecture to visit these sacred destinations.
Under Uttar Pradesh Green Hydrogen Policy – 2024, the state envisions taking the production capacity of Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia up to 1 million metric tonnes per year by 2028. The policy also looks to set up 4 Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to conduct research, development, and technological innovation activities.
