The Lucknow Municipal Corporation is partnering with EverEnviro Resource Management Pvt Ltd to address the persistent issue of solid waste disposal in the Uttar Pradesh state capital by developing a biogas or Bio-CNG plant.
The bio-CNG plant will be located on Lucknow Municipal Corporation land and will process solid waste to produce 12 metric tons of gas daily, enough to power 300 buses each day.
This initiative is expected to generate a royalty of ₹74 lakh per year for LMC and create 500 job opportunities, thereby having a positive socio-economic impact.
Municipal Commissioner Inderjeet Singh specified that EverEnviro will establish the plant on 12 acres of LMC land in the Amausi Industrial area, between the shooting range and Kanha Upvan. The bio-CNG plant, described as state-of-the-art, will address the solid waste management challenges of the state capital by processing 300 metric tons of waste daily, resulting in 12 metric tons of Bio-CNG.
The produced Bio-CNG will be supplied to Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
This initiative aims to convert solid waste into biofuel and produce approximately 5,500 metric tons of manure annually. Currently, Lucknow generates around 1,500 metric tons of waste per day. The success of the project hinges on effectively segregating waste, with the city corporation expected to provide 300 metric tons of solid waste to the plant daily. To ensure success, residents are being educated on waste segregation and encouraged to deposit organic and inorganic waste in designated bins.
Deepak Agarwal, Executive Director of EverEnviro Resource Management Pvt Ltd, highlighted their commitment to the central government’s solid waste policy by establishing similar plants in Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Greater Noida, collectively treating 5,47,500 metric tons of waste annually.
