The stage is set for the “World Biogas Association INDIA Congress-2024” at Le Méridien in New Delhi. The mega congressional event will take place from October 23 to 24. The World Biogas Association (WBA) expressed its pride in announcing the event, highlighting that it will build on the success of the inaugural Congress held in New Delhi in 2023.
The Congress will focus on strategies to accelerate the expansion of India’s biogas sector. The WBA held, “With India becoming a key player in the global energy landscape, the 2024 Congress will play a pivotal role in supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s target of establishing 5,000 large-scale compressed biogas (CBG) plants by 2030.”
The INDIA Congress 2024 will focus on key topics such as decarbonizing energy, reducing air and water pollution, meeting climate goals, and improving energy security by reducing reliance on imported liquefied natural gas (LNG). Government officials, industry leaders, and international experts will gather to discuss policies, technological advancements, and investment opportunities aimed at driving growth in the biogas sector.
A recent report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) indicated that India’s biogas market could grow by 88 percent by 2030 under current policies. The expansion could even surpass 150 per cent if stronger policy measures are implemented, the report finds.
The event will feature high-profile speakers and dignitaries, underscoring the importance of biogas in India’s energy and environmental plans.
The INDIA Congress 2024 by WBA will see some notable attendees include Tarun Kapoor, Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office; Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa and former CEO of NITI Aayog; Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas; and PK Singh, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Additionally, the WBA emphasized its ongoing work through the Making Biogas Happen Programme, which includes developing a Global Biogas Regulatory Framework and an International Anaerobic Digestion Certification Scheme (ADCS). These initiatives aim to standardize regulations and certifications across the biogas sector, promoting significant global growth.
