CM Sukhu wants 1-MW green hydrogen plant in Himachal Pradesh to be ready by 2025
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu told the officials of Energy Department to expedite the construction process of the green hydrogen project and ensure that the tender is awarded as soon as possible.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu has reviewed the progress of the 1-MW capacity green hydrogen plant which is currently under construction in Nalagarh area of Solan district.
During a meeting with senior officers from the Energy Department, Sukhu told them to expedite the construction process and ensure the project’s tender is awarded as soon as possible. The Chief Minister has set a firm deadline for the plant’s completion by the end of 2025.
Sukhu emphasized the state government’s commitment to transforming Himachal Pradesh into a green energy state by March 31, 2026. He noted that the green hydrogen plant would be a significant milestone in achieving this ambitious goal, as demand for green hydrogen is rapidly increasing across industries.
The CM said, “Green hydrogen offers a clean alternative to fossil fuels, especially in sectors such as transportation, manufacturing, and energy storage.
Sukhu highlighted that the production of green hydrogen with zero carbon emissions will play a crucial role in decarbonizing industries and energy systems, contributing to environmental conservation. He added that green hydrogen significantly reduces the emission of pollutants like nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and particulate matter, thereby improving air quality and protecting ecosystems.
Sukhu reiterated his government’s prioritization of environmental conservation through various initiatives aimed at creating a cleaner and greener state. He mentioned that he had recently laid the foundation stone for a pilot project of a green hydrogen mobility station in Chamba, which is expected to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 14 crore.
Additionally, a 32 MW solar power plant has already been established in Pekhubela, Una district, with two more plants expected to become operational within the next six months. He directed the Energy Department to intensify efforts to enhance solar energy harnessing across the state.
Himachal Pradesh is also about to launch its first green hydrogen mobility station in Chamba district marking a crucial step towards green mobility.
In April this year, SJVN Limited inaugurated of one of the India’s first state-of-the-art multi-purpose (Combined Heat and Power) green hydrogen pilot project in Jhakri.
