CIAN Agro to produce Ethanol from CO2; collaborates with Ram Charan Group

CIAN Agro that is being run by Nikhil Gadkari, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ram Charan Group based in Chennai at the closing ceremony of the Advantage Vidarbha event, Maharashtra.

The collaboration aims to develop a revolutionary technology for ethanol production utilizing carbon dioxide as a primary raw material. Nikhil Gadkari is the son of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

The collaboration of CIAN Agro holds significant potential to transform the automotive industry, where ethanol is commonly mixed with petroleum fuel. Traditionally sourced from sugar cane, grains, and other feedstocks, ethanol’s production also contributes to the pollution somehow. However, by leveraging carbon dioxide, the process promises substantial long-term environmental benefits.

Nikhil Gadkari expressed optimism about the project’s progress, indicating successful laboratory trials and plans to upscale production post-MoU signing.

The innovative method involves repurposing carbon dioxide, a byproduct from CIAN Agro’s distilleries, to manufacture ethanol. The company envisions a wider application of this concept, including capturing emissions from industrial sources to produce ethanol and combat pollution.

Sarang Gadkari, Nitin Gadkari’s brother, emphasized the broader environmental vision, highlighting the potential to utilize captured carbon dioxide for ethanol production instead of emitting it into the atmosphere.

At the event, equipment demonstrating the production of ethanol from carbon dioxide was showcased, alongside plans to explore aviation turbine fuel (ATF) production from bamboo. CIAN Agro, in conjunction with Manas Group, another company owned by the Gadkari family, operates in various sectors such as sugar, distillery, power, and bio-fertilizers, with ethanol being a key product supplied primarily for fuel blending.
