2-TPD biogas plant to be established in Osmania University to manage waste
The Saahas NGO will take care of solid waste management and Ahuja Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd (AES) that will set up the biogas plant on the campus.
Providing a push to the efforts of sustainability & nature conservation, Osmania University (OU) has announced that it has signed of two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and engineering firms aimed at establishing a biogas plant for effective waste management and also restoring historic step wells on its campus.
With regards to the development of a biogas plant, the Osmania University has signed a tripartite agreement. This MoU binds Saahas NGO which specialising in solid waste management and Ahuja Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd (AES) that will set up the biogas plant on the campus. The capacity of the upcoming biogas unit will be two tonnes per day (TPD).
Established in 2001, Saahas will use its network to secure corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding, while AES will provide the technology and equipment, handing it over to the university after six months of operation.
The MoU is signed with the Society for the Advancement of Human Endeavour (SAHE) that focuses on the restoration of the Adikmet step well, another step well near the University College of Education block, and the one near the Mechanical Engineering block. This collaboration aims to preserve the unique architectural features of these ancient step wells, maintaining their historical significance, according to a press statement.
The restoration efforts will also enhance groundwater recharge and improve the aesthetic and functional appeal of the surrounding areas, based on SAHE’s proposed plans. SAHE will play a key role in securing the necessary funds to complete the restoration.
Telangana is on rise with regards to the biogas development in the country. Recently, Siestema.bio revealed to the media that it will be deploying 25,000 biogas units in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana only. TSREDCO held that the number of family-size biogas plants that can be installed are estimated at 10.90 lakhs in Telangana, based on cattle population and dung availability.
