SJVN Inaugurated 1500 MW First Green Hydrogen Pilot Project In HP

SJVN Limited recently inaugurated of one of the India’s first state-of-the-art multi-purpose (Combined Heat and Power) green hydrogen pilot project at its 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro power station in Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh.

SJVN Chief Managing Director (CMD), Geeta Kapur, inaugurated the green hydrogen pilot project with capability to cater to HVOF coating facility of Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) to meet its combustion fuel requirements in addition to generating electricity through its 25kW capacity fuel cell.

“This project aligned with National Green Hydrogen Mission of Govt. of India, SJVN’s Green Hydrogen Pilot Project is poised to accelerate development of green hydrogen production infrastructure in power sector, establishing green hydrogen as a clean energy source.” Geeta Kapur, CMD, SJVN said this on the social media platform X.

Geeta Kapur also inaugurated centralized operation of 1500 MW NJHPS and 412 MW Rampur HPS by remotely operating unit-2 of RHPS from NJHPS control room at Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh. Rampur HPS is being successfully operated on Tandem Operating System with NJHPS.

The tandem’s Non-Stop systems use a number of independent identical processors and redundant storage devices and controllers to provide automatic high-speed “failover” in the case of a hardware or software failure.

Earlier this year, Union Minister for Steel and Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, virtually inaugurated India’s 1st green hydrogen plant in the stainless-steel sector located at Jindal Stainless Limited in Haryana’s Hisar. The inauguration witnessed the presence of the Secretary, of the Ministry of Steel Nagendra Nath Sinha, Managing Director (Jindal Stainless Limited), Abhyuday Jindal, Founder, Hygenco Amit Bansal, and other officials of the Ministry of Steel.

The union minister of steel highlighted India’s commitment to a green and sustainable future, it emphasized the need for responsible economic progress in the post-COVID era. “As the world strives to recover from the pandemic’s aftermath, India is steadfast in its resolve to contribute to global environmental goals”, he added.
