Maiden green hydrogen training takes off at Hindu College

The initiative is a key component of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) and aims to raise awareness among a large number of students about Green Hydrogen.

Hindu College, in association with Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council (HSSC) of the Government, has launched the first-ever skill training program on ‘Green Hydrogen’ for young students under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme.

This initiative is a key component of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) and aims to raise awareness among a large number of students about Green Hydrogen.

Green Hydrogen is produced through water electrolysis powered by renewable energy. This unique four-day training course features 11 in-depth sessions tailored to equip students with advanced knowledge and expertise in this emerging field. Developing skills in Green Hydrogen is crucial for positioning India as a global leader in the production and supply of this clean energy, fostering Indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

Prof. Anju Srivastava, Principal of Hindu College, said, “We are honoured that our college has been designated as a Training Centre for this initiative. This presents a tremendous opportunity for our students to grasp the intricacies of cutting-edge technology involved in producing clean fuel for a sustainable and cleaner future.” The course, spanning 30 hours and including field visits, offers one credit that can be added to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC).

The 11 sessions cover a broad spectrum of topics, starting with an introduction to the hydrocarbon sector, moving on to the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, the properties of hydrogen, and its potential as a green energy source. The course also explores the National Green Hydrogen Mission, various green hydrogen production methods, hydrogen compression and storage technologies, transportation, applications, and disaster management.

Prof. Srivastava also highlighted that the green hydrogen training initiative will provide participants with insights into the hydrocarbon sector, including the oil and natural gas industries, both globally and within India.

The course will also cover the energy transition in the oil and gas sector, the greenhouse effect, key greenhouse gases, global warming, GHG emissions, and net-zero scenarios. Participants will learn about technologies for achieving net-zero emissions, the fundamentals of hydrogen molecules, their physical and chemical properties, and various applications.

Guided by experts like Dr. G.S. Kapur, Advisor (R&D) at GAIL India Ltd., Dr. T. Bera, DGM – R&D at Indian Oil, Shri S. K. Bose, CEO of HSSC, and Prof. Anju Srivastava, over 50 students are taking part in this comprehensive course. The program aims to provide students with a thorough understanding of green hydrogen, its applications, and its transformative potential in the energy sector.
